Physical Requirements:

This Safari is a mix of driving and walking through two of Namibia’s most scenic national parks. We tailor the distance of the walking trails to each group but a reasonable physical condition is expected for this Safari. You don’t need to be super fit: you won’t be expected to walk more then 15km a day.

Accommodation:

  • Day 1-3: Rock shelters, a real earthy experience, these rooms are situated on top of the Waterberg Plateau and are warm, solid and friendly!
  • Day 4-5: Lodge/Hotel accommodation.
  • Day 6-7: Accommodation at your own choice. Feel free to contact us for assisting you in this. Please note that your stay and accommodation in Windhoek will be at your own expense.
  • Day 8-15: Lodge/Hotel accommodation.
  • Please note that accommodation is based on 2 persons but single supplements are available.

Itinerary:

Day 1:  Windhoek to Waterberg Plateau Park (approx 350 kms/4 hours)

  • We’ll travel by car from Windhoek to Waterberg Plateau Park
  • On our arrival at the park we will meet the park guide who will lead our group through the park for the next 2 days.
  • We’ll start our hike in the afternoon, through an area known for its distinctive sandstone formations.
  • Camp will be made around a warm fire, and you can watch the star filled sky surrounded by the sounds of the wild.
  • Tonight your guide will cook you an excellent bush dinner on an open fire.

Day 2:  Waterberg Plateau Park

  • A brisk walk in the morning to get us started so we can catch all the animals returning from their morning drink.
  • We’ll teach you how to find and identify animals by looking at their tracks.
  • Waterberg Plateau Park will give you the perfect opportunity to take photographs of all the animals in the park, especially the black rhinoceros, as 95% of the Namibian rhino population can be found here.
  • After a couple of hours relaxation in the afternoon, we’ll head off to one of the waterholes to watch the animals cool off.
  • Another fabulous open-fire-dinner will be prepared for you. Make use of this opportunity and take a speed course in Namibian bush cooking!

Day 3:  Waterberg Plateau Park

  • Today we’ll take you to all the different hot spots and locations where you’ll get to see the parks permanent residents in their natural grazing, hunting and feeding grounds.
  • After a short relaxing pause, we’ll visit another waterhole where some of the animals prefer to drink, because it’s closer to their hunting ground.
  • Tonight you can enjoy your last bush meal in the serene environment of the magnificent Waterberg Plateau Park.

Day 4: Waterberg Plateau Park to Etosha National Park area (approx 360 kms/4 hours)

  • We’ll start the day with a visit to the historical site of Waterberg, where we’ll see ancient Bushmen rock engravings, as well as some amazing 180 to 200 million years old dinosaur prints, a real favourite!
  • It’s been a long and hard journey for Namibia to give back the freedom of the sky to captive bred and rehabilitated cape vultures, we’ll show you were to find them and tell you their amazing story.
  • Our journey to Etosha will lead us through rich abundant farmland and small quant local towns that have a pace and buzz different to what you expect.
  • We’ll arrive in the park just in time for a late afternoon game drive.

Day 5: Etosha National Park (approx 110 kms/8 hours)

  • A full days exciting game drive through Etosha National Park which will include a stop off for lunch at Halali Camp, a rest area in the middle of the Park, where you can swim and cool off before continuing on our journey.
  • After an adventurous day exploring the park, we’ll arrive at our accommodation site in time to relax and stretch our legs before a tasty dinner (please note, dinner is at own account).
  • The waterhole at the edge of the premises is a fantastic place to watch lions, rhinos, giraffes, elephants and many more, having an evening drink.

Day 6: Etosha National Park to Windhoek (approx 500 kms/6.5 hours)

  • After breakfast we’re back on the game trail with a morning drive before heading back to civilisation.
  • On our way, we’ll stop at the largest wood carving market town of Okahandja, for a spot souvenir shopping.
  • Our guide will drop you at your requested destination in Windhoek. Please note that your stay, dinner and accommodation in Windhoek is at your own expense. We strongly advise you to confirm your hotel booking prior to taking the tour. Feel free to contact us for recommended accommodation and to talk to our guide about places of interest in Windhoek.

Day 7: Windhoek

  • We’ll have a full day to rest, recover and explore Windhoek. Please ensure you have arranged your accommodation for this part of the tour. Feel free to contact us for recommendations. Please note that this day will be at your own expense.

Day 8: Windhoek to Brukkaros/Mariental area (approx 431 kms/6 hours)

  • From Windhoek we drive to the South, this is the home of the Nama people, one of the San speaking tribes of Namibia and their unique language includes 4 different clicking sounds.
  • Our journey will take us along the very edge of the Kalahari Desert.
  • We will be staying overnight in the area of the Brukkaros Crater, a great place to hang out to familiarise with the sound and smell of Africa.

Day 9: Brukkaros/Mariental area to the Fish River Canyon (approx 300 kms/4 hours)

  • The drive from the Kalahari Desert to the Namib Desert is one of the most scenic, it has gorgeous mountain and desert view, a real feast for the eyes.
  • We’ll be able to spot game, like the mountain zebra, springbok and oryx, the list is too long to mention.
  • Finally we will arrive at the majestic and impressive Fish River Canyon, the world’s second largest canyon, and marvel at the extraordinary views and endless possibilities of time and nature.

Day 10: Fish River Canyon to Lüderitz/Aus area (approx 300 kms/4 hours)

  • From Fish River Canyon we will continue on through the Namib Desert to the area of Lüderitz/Aus.

Day 11: Lüderitz

  • A day of historic exploration in Lüderitz.
  • In the afternoon we will drive to Diaz where you’ll get to see the place from a different but equally interesting vantage point.
  • After visiting the mining ghost town of Kolmanskop, where the first diamond in Namibia was discovered, we’ll take a short drive to an area populated with stunning wild horses.
  • Lunch will be at your own expense.

Day 12: Lüderitz/Aus to Sessriem, Namib Naukluft Park (approx 370 kms/5 hours)

  • After driving through the desert with its volcanic and eroded rock formations, we will make our way to the red dunes at Sessriem.
  • We will arrive just in time to see the magnificent and stunning sunset over the dunes. A must see and equally as important as the sunrise.

Day 13: Sessriem to Sossusvlei, back to Sessriem (approx 120 kms/2 hours)

  • The sunrise over the dunes gives visitors a completely different perspective on the shifting desert sands – a worthwhile early morning journey.
  • Dune 45 is approximately 120 meters high, but don’t let that stop you from climbing it to see the views!
  • Afterwards we will continue into the heart of the Namib for magnificent views of the awe inspiring dunes, ancient mineral pans, camel thorn trees and much more.
  • We’ll have a chance to spot all sorts of wildlife, like the oryx, ostrich and springbock.
  • In the afternoon we’ll have time to relax and swim before heading out to the last canyon on our trip, the Sessriem Canyon.
  • At Sessriem Canyon, we’ll be watching the sunset through the second biggest canyon in Namibia.

Day 14: Sesriem to Swakopmund (approx 390 kms/4,5 hours)

  • Travelling via a scenic and mountainous route along the skeleton coast, we’ll be able to spot more wildlife before reaching the biggest coastal town of Namibia, Swakopmund.
    We’ll stop to see thousands of graceful flamingos at Walvis Bay.  A magnificent sight, especially if you’re lucky enough to see them take flight simultaneously.
  • Swakopmund has a wide range of activities; you can skydive, go quad biking or sand boarding in the dunes, go on a fishing expedition or enjoy a dolphin cruise. If you’re interested in taking part in any, just let our guide know and he’ll arrange the bookings for you. Unfortunately these activities are not included in the original price of the tour.
  • Dinner will be at your own expense.

Day 15: Swakopmund

  • A full day in Swakopmund. As there are so many things to see and go, and so many activities to partake in, the day is yours to do with as you please: shopping, adventure sports, adrenalin filled activities or just relaxing with a book and cup of fresh ground African coffee.
  • Lunch and dinner will be at your own expense.

Day 16: Swakopmund to Windhoek (approx 360 kms/4,5 hours)

  • The day starts with a visit to the largest seal colony of Southern Africa at Cape Cross before travelling back to Windhoek.
  • Our guide will drop you at your requested destination in Windhoek. Please note that dinner and accommodation is at your own expense. We strongly advise you to confirm your hotel booking prior to taking the tour. Feel free to contact us for recommended accommodation.
