(Note: in 2009, the price of this tour may vary) Scheduled Departures in 2008:April 7, May 1, June 9, July 3, July 31, August 28, September 8, October 2, October 30 Scheduled Departures in 2009: January 22, April 6, April 30, May 10, June 4, July 2, August 6, September 3, October 1, October 29, December 30 Itinerary:Day 1: Windhoek to Mariental area (approx 431 kms/4 hours) - From Windhoek we drive to the South, this is the home of the Nama people, one of the San speaking tribes of Namibia and their unique language includes 4 different clicking sounds.
- Our journey will take us along the very edge of the Kalahari Desert.
- We will be staying overnight in the area of Mariental, a great place to hang out to familiarise with the sound and smell of Africa.
Day 2: Mariental area to the Fish River Canyon (approx 300 kms/6 hours) - The drive from the Kalahari Desert to the Namib Desert is one of the most scenic, it has gorgeous mountain and desert view, a real feast for the eyes.
- We’ll be able to spot game, like the mountain zebra, springbok and oryx, the list is too long to mention.
- Finally we will arrive at the majestic and impressive Fish River Canyon, the world’s second largest canyon, and marvel at the extraordinary views and endless possibilities of time and nature.
Day 3: Fish River Canyon to Lüderitz/Aus area (approx 300 kms/4 hours) - From Fish River Canyon we will continue on through the Namib Desert to the area of Lüderitz/Aus.
Day 4: Lüderitz - A day of historic exploration in Lüderitz.
- In the afternoon we will drive to Diaz where you’ll get to see the place from a different but equally interesting vantage point.
- After visiting the mining ghost town of Kolmanskop, where the first diamond in Namibia was discovered, we’ll take a short drive to an area populated with stunning wild horses.
- Lunch will be at your own expense.
Day 5: Lüderitz/Aus area to Sessriem, Namib Naukluft Park (approx 370 kms/5 hours) - After driving through the desert with its volcanic and eroded rock formations, we will make our way to the red dunes at Sessriem.
- We will arrive just in time to see the magnificent and stunning sunset over the dunes. A must see and equally as important as the sunrise.
Day 6: Sessriem area to Sossusvlei and back (approx 120 kms/2 hours) - The sunrise over the dunes gives visitors a completely different perspective on the shifting desert sands – a worthwhile early morning journey.
- Dune 45 is approximately 120 meters high, but don’t let that stop you from climbing it to see the views!
- Afterwards we will continue into the heart of the Namib for magnificent views of the awe inspiring dunes, ancient mineral pans, camel thorn trees and much more.
- We’ll have a chance to spot all sorts of wildlife, like the oryx, ostrich and springbock.
- In the afternoon we’ll have time to relax and swim before heading out to the last canyon on our trip, the Sessriem Canyon.
- At Sessriem Canyon, we’ll be watching the sunset through the second biggest canyon in Namibia.
Day 7: Sesriem to Swakopmund (approx 390 kms/4,5 hours) - Travelling via a scenic and mountainous route along the skeleton coast, we’ll be able to spot more wildlife before reaching the biggest coastal town of Namibia, Swakopmund.
- We’ll stop to see thousands of graceful flamingos at Walvis Bay. A magnificent sight, especially if you’re lucky enough to see them take flight simultaneously.
- Swakopmund has a wide range of activities; you can skydive, go quad biking or sand boarding in the dunes, go on a fishing expedition or enjoy a dolphin cruise. If you’re interested in taking part in any, just let our guide know and he’ll arrange the bookings for you. Unfortunately these activities are not included in the original price of the tour.
- Dinner tonight will be at your own expense.
Day 8: Swakopmund - A full day in Swakopmund. As there are so many things to see and go, and so many activities to partake in, the day is yours to do with as you please: shopping, adventure sports, adrenalin filled activities or just relaxing with a book and cup of fresh ground African coffee.
- Lunch and dinner will be at your own expense.
Day 9: Swakopmund to Windhoek (approx 360 kms/4,5 hours) - The day starts with a visit to the largest seal colony of Southern Africa at Cape Cross before travelling back to Windhoek.
- Our guide will drop you at your requested destination in Windhoek. Please note that dinner and accommodation is at your own expense. We strongly advise you to confirm your hotel booking prior to taking the tour. Feel free to contact us for recommended accommodation and to talk to our guide about places of interest in Windhoek.
